Overview

Medbasin is a windows-based program used to produce the daily or monthly hydrograph of a river. The main data inputs of the program is the average precipitation and potential evapotranspiration (or pan evaporation) of the basin.

The program is oriented to be more adaptive to Mediterranean river basins. The core of the software is constructed out of the basic principles of MERO, a conceptual rainfall–runoff model which was proposed by FAO for Mediterranean river basins. The parameters of the model represent the physical characteristics of the basin and can be calibrated using measured runoff data through a semi-automatic procedure.

The program has many additional features, including the calculation of the average precipitation of the basin using weighted data from different gauging stations, automatic transformation of evaporation to potential evapotranspiration data using monthly or annual coefficients, calculation of a ten-day average evaporation file using series of annual evaporation datasets, etc.
